Be Amazed

In the bible, the book of Habbakkuk is about someone being angry with God. The person looks up and asks God, “where are you? How can you look on this injustice and do nothing?” And then in verse 5 God says “Look and be amazed, For I am doing something in your midst that you would not believe even if I told you. I see all the injustice that you are complaining about and I have a plan. I am working. Just chill man. Trust me.” I paraphrased of course, but you get the idea. It seems like one of the things that christians and non-christians struggle with is, “how can there be a God when there is so much pain, suffering, and injustice in the world? The book of Habbakkuk reminds us to fix our eyes on God and trust that he not only sees everything going on in this world, but he is doing something about and most often, as we see throughout scripture, God uses people, us, to do something about it. For example, God’s people who were enslaved in Egypt cried out to God and He heard their cries and, therefore, called Moses to be his instrument in delivering the nation of Israel. This song is about looking to God and seeing the cross and knowing that God’s grace reaches far beyond anything we could ever imagine. In life, we will go thru many seasons that cause us to doubt, wonder, and question why God has us where he has us. In those moments, I pray we would remember that God’s ways and thoughts are higher than ours and that he has a plan. We just need to relax, take a deep breath, and trust in the God who paid our sin debt on the cross. Thus, making a way for us to be in relationship with him. By looking to God and fixing our eyes on him, no matter what comes our way we can stand firm, because the one who invented creation is the one who holds us, pursues us, and draws us to himself. Look and be amazed at what God did on the cross and what he continues to do everyday in our lives.
